CPL Final

23 June 2021

Every year the CPL Final is a highly anticipated event that gives all the boys in the senior years an opportunity to play competitive matches, with a crowd, as well as all of the accompanying excitement and production value, no matter which team they play for. Kicking off with a rousing performance of the national anthem, a group of our musicians played a jaunty tune to accompany Mr Wild theatrically bringing on the match ball. This year’s finalists were the Slough Sledgehammers and the Denham Devils and it's fair to say that tensions were high; the final game ended in a super over, which the Slough Sledgehammers narrowly won (they are the first team in CPL history to win twice in a row!). The crowd of boys ran onto the pitch to celebrate the end of this gripping event. We have Ma'am Macleod and Mr Williams to thank for providing the engaging commentary, with Mr Evans also sharing his unique insight for a time. Credit also to Mr Brown for building the atmosphere with appropriate sound effects and music throughout.

The praise for this fantastic event goes to the tournament director, Mr Bichsel for setting up this year’s CPL; he had the following to say: ‘I was honoured to have the opportunity to organise this year’s Caldicott Premier League Final. The event is the culmination of a whole tournament with the aim of offering more competitive cricket fixtures for our boys. Enabling all boys to take part in and enjoy cricket matches has always been an important goal of the cricket provision at Caldicott. Once again, this year’s final has been a full success and it has been amazing to see the many smiles on boys faces, both on and off the field. I hope this tradition will long continue!’
