Rugby Coaching at Caldicott is Getting Even Better

21 June 2021

We are very excited to welcome Mr Fyffe who joins the English Department in September. As well as being a talented teacher, he has a passion for rugby and will be a welcome addition to what is already a very talented team of rugby specialists. Mr Fyffe played provincial rugby in South Africa as well as SANDF U21 rugby and can’t wait to join our boys and staff here at Caldicott.

Mr Hutchings is excited to welcome another staff member with a rugby background to help him coach the boys. From being a National League player (and captain) himself, Mr Hutchings went on to become Lead Coach for the Wasps developing player programme, South-West U18 Head Coach and is currently England Counties U18 Assistant Coach. We are fortunate to have someone with his expertise coaching our boys in rugby; the fact that Mr Hutchings takes time to coach all the teams from As to the Ds, sends out a powerful message to our boys that while we are proud of our rugby success, it is our ‘sports-for-all’ philosophy that guides the provision at Caldicott.

Mr Williams works alongside Mr Hutchings to provide our boys with premium rugby coaching. He joined Caldicott in September 2012, with a strong foundation in the sport; during his time at the University of Leeds he captained the 1st XV for three years, moving on to play for a number of sides, including Berkshire Men’s County Team for two years. Following his impressive playing career, Mr Williams went into coaching. This passion stemmed from the great coaches he had himself, namely Ben Ryan and Stuart Lancaster. Now a Level 3 RFU Coach, he wants to inspire a love of rugby in the boys, ‘having been given so many incredible experiences by the game, my aim is to provide a starting block through the rugby programme at Caldicott by instilling the values of the game for all the boys to go on and make their own treasured memories and life experiences.’

Another member of our team is Mr Robinson who has experience playing Rugby at a variety of levels. As well as playing semi-professionally for five years, he impressively had the opportunity to train with the England 7s for three months. Playing in tournaments around the world for Apache 7s, Samurai 7s, Singapore Barbarians and Penguins, he went on to gain his Level 2 rugby coaching certificate. Mr Robinson remarkably has coached on cruise ships for Legend tours alongside ex-professional rugby players (as well as in Sardinia and Twickenham).

Another Level 2 RFU Coach works with our boys. Mr Holyland has 14 years’ experience coaching across prep school, senior school and county age groups. He originally played in national league 2 south and northern premier for Chinnor RFC and Kirkby Lonsdale RFC. Lastly, Mr Cox has accompanied his Level 2 coaching with RFU Director of Rugby and Advanced CPD qualifications. He has been a coach for the Harlequins and Saracens Developing Player Programme, the Sussex U16 County as well as being the Lambs U13 ISRFC Coach.
Mr Fyffe will be a welcome addition to what is already a top-notch team of rugby coaches at Caldicott.
