Senior Caldicott Boys take part in the Wellington College Choral Day

28 February 2020

A group of boys from Year 7 and 8 attended a Choral workshop at Wellington school on Thursday 27 February. One of 15 schools to attend the event.

The workshop was run by composer and conductor Peter Hunt, who has conducted the Berkshire Youth Choir and worked closely with Bob Chilcott on a number of projects.

The day started in Wellington's G.W. Annenberg auditorium with a vocal warm-up, including some entertaining numbers such as You can't put your muck in our dustbin, before the boys embarked on learning some more serious material. The combined choir was able to master an arrangement of Psalm 105, a jazzy number entitled Streetseller by Bob Chilcott, a spiritual anthem called Little David and an arrangement of With a Little Help from my Friends by the Beatles within a matter of hours, all of which were then performed to an audience at the end of the day.

It was a fantastic experience for the boys, not only to be able to sing in such huge numbers, but to meet other children their age with a similar love of singing, and to be directed by such an accomplished choirmaster as Peter Hunt.
