Prep School Art Festival Day at Stowe

24 November 2021

Recently, three boys from the 5th Form had the pleasure of attending a Prep School Art Festival Day hosted by Stowe. This was a fantastic opportunity not only to engage in artistic activities with boys and girls from other prep schools, but also to see wonderful Stowe House, the Grade I listed building that is home to the school. Set in 1000 acres of beautiful parkland with gardens designed by, amongst others, Capability Brown, the stately home created between 1677 and 1779 includes English Baroque, Palladian, and Neoclassical architecture which never fails to impress.

During three instructive, fun, and informative studio sessions, run by members of Stowe's excellent art department, Clark C, Kevin L, and Jeremy Y created some interesting artwork on the theme of 'environment and climate change' including flowers from upcycled plastic, junk-modelled bugs, and beautiful etching prints of insects. They thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, including dining in the marble Saloon - the grandest interior in the house, which features a huge domed ceiling based on the Pantheon. At the end of the day the pupils' artwork was put on display for all to enjoy along with the refreshments and cake.

All in all, it was a splendid, educational, day out during which three old boys were encountered: Turner, Sautter, Boardman, all of whom were on great form!
