'Perseverance' - Cambridge Dictionary's Word of the Year

19 November 2021

We are delighted that Cambridge Dictionary have chosen one of our school’s core values, ‘Perseverance’, as their word of the Year 2021.

‘Continued effort to do or achieve something, even when this is difficult and takes a long time’. This is the definition of perseverance, a value we strive to teach boys at Caldicott each day. Perseverance comes in all shapes and sizes; here we have a photo of our U10s persevering on the rugby pitch this Wednesday, but this doesn’t have to be limited to sport, it can come in the form of a tough maths problem or be shown through work in the local community.

‘I do not think that there is any other quality so essential to success of any kind as the quality of perseverance. It overcomes almost everything, even nature.’ – John D. Rockefeller
