Senior House Debate

13 November 2021

Each year, 5th and 6th Form representatives from each of the four Houses go head-to-head in the Senior House Debate. We were delighted to welcome back Rob Whitmell, the Head of English at Lambrook (and former member of the English department at Caldicott), to adjudicate.

There were two issues, one global and one Caldicott related, with Cooper (proposition) and Jenkins (opposition) facing off in the first global debate: ‘This House believes that governments should prioritise spending for space exploration’. This debate was incredibly close, with excellent speeches on both sides; Mr Whitmell eventually decided that Cooper were the winners, with the notable performer being Montgomery CS (5th Form).

The second debate (the Caldicott issue) had the proposition, McArthur, taking on the opposition, Wood, with the motion: ‘This House believes that teachers at Caldicott should give out more plusses for kindness than they do for good work’. The opposition, Wood, won this debate, with a notable performance from Ivan D (6th Form) in what made for another exciting and closely fought exchange.

A full video of the debate will be available to all of our parents in next week's newsletter.
