28 May 2021

Another great week has flown by and with the exception that one or two opposition schools were quick to cancel sports fixtures, this half of term has been the best this academic year. Particular highlights for me were the Scholars’ Supper on Monday night and Thursday’s Individual House Music Finals. The first of these two events offered the chance for my colleagues and I to congratulate the boys who have worked so hard over so many months to prepare for a variety of scholarship exams to senior schools. In attendance were not only the boys who achieved the awards, but also the boys who committed to the journey but fell short of an award. We take the view that this moment is merely a staging post in their young lives and they will all go onwards and upwards to bigger and better things. The second was the splendid Individual House Music Finals, adjudicated by Harrow’s Director of Music. I would like to thank Mr. Wild for delivering this event and, of course, all the boys who participated. Particular recognition must go to the winners (see the article below) and to McArthur, the winning House. The House Captain of McArthur is not a boy who has troubled the Music Department much in his time at Caldicott, but at the beginning of term he stepped up to perform in order to secure the points for his House – what a great example to everyone, well done.

Alongside these events I was thrilled that the Friends of Caldicott held a brunch and flower arranging morning. Judging from my observation that it turned into an all day affair, it was a triumph! Huge thanks to Julia Faulks and the Committee for putting this event on.

I was going to write to you today with further information about events for the second half of term, but with doubt cast on whether the UK will enter Step 4 of the reopening roadmap, I will not tempt fate. The sketchy plans I shared a few weeks ago still remain as they are. This includes, but are not limited to:

12 June: Open-air Future Schools Event for 3rd Form parents only.

19 June: Summer Fete (no parents).

25 June: Sports Day – currently planned with everyone welcome.

7 July: Speech Day and Prize Giving – currently planned with only the parents of leavers invited.

Have a good break and I look forward to welcoming you back for exam season and (fingers crossed) the multitude of fantastic events between now and the end of term.
