Talking Sports

22 March 2021

For the past several weeks, the Sports Department have been working tirelessly to arrange conversations with key figures in the sporting world, and attain their unique insight for the benefit of the Caldicott community. As well as it being a great opportunity to learn about the ins and outs of a given sport, they will also be discussing the importance of perseverance and what it takes to achieve greatness.

Early on in lockdown, when the boys were still doing virtual learning, Mr Hutchings arranged an interview with James Gaunt, the Director of Sport at Radley College. They discussed his background in sport, coaching and teaching as well as the best ways to transition pupils (and parents) from prep school to senior school.

If you are interested in cricket, then this will certainly be a interview worth listening to, and even if you aren't, his message of hard word and taking each day as it comes is something we can all resonate with.

The following week, Mr Williams managed to secure an interview with David Seymour, an ex-professional rugby player who played for both Saracens and Sale Sharks in the Premiership for a total of 15 years. He is one of the most capped Premiership players of all time accruing over 100 appearances for Saracens from 2003 – 2009 and was just 4 games shy of 200 appearances for Sale Sharks from 2009 – 2018. These undisputed credentials mean Seymour is the perfect person to give the lesson that hard work is intrinsically connected to luck.
