Swimming Pool Enclosure | An Update

12 March 2021

Thanks to an incredibly generous donor, construction is well underway to transform the swimming pool area by adding a permanent roofing fixture and upgrading the pool equipment. We are pleased to announce that there has been significant progress carried out on the project over the Christmas break, and subsequent lockdown. The foundation has been laid, the concrete base set, the structure built, and now the new gas and heating has been installed.

Speaking to Harry L (4th Form), one of our keen swimmers, has really put into perspective what this development means for the boys. ‘I am very excited as it will really make a big difference, there’s been lots of times where swimming has had to be cancelled because of the rain – it is England after all!’. Harry went on to describe the impact it will make to swimming competitions, something he always takes part in, ‘after we’ve come out of the pool, it won’t be as cold while we watch the other boys compete!’. A final positive Harry hopes comes from the new enclosure is that more boys will find a passion for the sport in the way he has.

All in all, the swimming pool enclosure project is currently on track to be completed for the first day of Summer Term, Wednesday 21 April. We are awaiting some further gas and electricity work as well as a fresh base consisting of rubber crumb to be laid around the whole outside of the pool area.

This development is, of course, incredibly exciting and we are so grateful to the very generous donor for allowing Caldicott to offer year-round swimming. After appointing two new swimming coaches last year, we will be able to nurture swimming talent in the school more than ever, as well as promote the sport as part of an active lifestyle.
