Talking Sports: Gregg Hobson, SA Youth Cricket Coach

28 January 2021

The Sports department is taking a proactive role in seeking critical and enriching sports knowledge to share with the whole Caldicott community. To this end, a Senior member of the Sports Team will be talking to someone from the sporting world every week with the goal of gathering their unique insight on the importance of sports in their lives. Look out for this every week as their perspective will be incredibly enriching, whether you want to achieve highly in a sport, or not.

In this week's edition of Talking Sports, Mr Zengerink spoke to Gregg Hobson, a renowned youth cricket coach in South Africa. He is the director of cricket at Saint Andrew’s School in Bloemfontein who are ranked in the top 5 schools in South Africa, he is also a Cricket South Africa talent scout for the U19 Knights franchise and is also currently the Free State interim coaches manager. They discuss his passion for cricket, what he looks for in a young cricketer as well as the impact white ball cricket (particularly 20 over cricket) is having on coaching and player development. His message of hard work and taking each day as it comes is hopefully something we can all resonate with in this day and age.
