Hole in One for Caldicott Pupil

15 October 2020

During the summer holidays, Year 8 boy Charlie was playing golf with his dad and successfully played a fantastic shot ending in a hole in one. Below is his account.

I was playing with my dad in Spain and I hit a nine-iron uphill 110 yards on hole four. Immediately my Dad said that it was a good shot and could be very close. I couldn’t see how close the ball was as it was a steep slope up to the green. It was only when my Dad got to about 30 yards from the hole that he could see only his ball on the green. Suddenly, all my hopes were lost and my heart sank as my ball must have been off the green. I kept walking up to the green when my Dad stopped and said 'your ball is in the hole!' At first I didn’t believe him but, as I caught up with him, I could see it was in as the hole was shallow because of the new Covid rules. I jumped in the air and ran around the whole green punching the air saying 'O my god'. Then my dad said in awe 'I have been playing for 35 years and I have never had a hole in one and you have been playing for five years and you have already got one, at the age of 12!'. This was one of the best moments of my life.

From this exceptional result in a game of golf, Charlie and his family informed the Hole in One club where he received some fantastic prizes for his achievement. Well done Charlie!
