The Caldicott Read for Ruth Readathon

05 May 2020

In March, as part in the World Book Day celebrations, Caldicott began a very special Sponsored Readathon 'Read for Ruth' in aid of the Ruth Strauss Foundation, the school’s charity of the year.

For World Book Day, the school was delighted to welcome the award winning author, Ali Sparks to launch the initiative by reading an excerpt from one of her brilliant books, Finding the Fox, to the whole school. Mr Evans then continued to hold readings of the book in whole school 'readaxation' sessions during lunch breaks leading up to the end of term.

Alongside the readathon and to encourage the boys’ reading over the holidays, Ma'am Elson created a special book log so that boys could read to the height of their favourite fictional characters. The top reader was James R (Year 3) who read over 20 books during the Easter break.

From the boys’ sponsorship, the total money raised for the Read for Ruth Readathon stands at £2499.44. An outstanding total the boys should be proud of.

The top fundraiser was Toby P (Year 4) who raised over £400 by emailing a video of himself reading to all of his friends and family, asking them to sponsor him.

It was another fantastic effort from the whole Caldicott community who have been incredibly enthusiastic in their support of the Ruth Struss Foundation this year.
