Caldicott Boy Tours South Africa with Primrose Hill Cricket Club

12 March 2020

Over half term, Ben S (Year 7), was chosen to represent Primrose Hill Cricket Club on their tour to Cape Town, South Africa. The team was made up of boys from various London schools and they performed very well on tour, despite the 40-degree temperatures.

They not only played matches but were also lucky enough to do a little sight-seeing, which included Robben Island, Table Mountain and the D&P bat factory.

Prior to the tour, the team managed to raise £3,000, which they donated to sports charity ‘Score’. Score’s vision is to change lives and build stronger communities through sport. The charity uses sport to provide children and youth with skills and opportunities that they need to succeed in life and contribute to their communities. The team were fortunate enough to visit one of the townships that benefit from the charity’s work. The team toured the township, played various sports games with the children and had lunch together. It was eye opening for some of the team but wonderful to see how sport can bring people together no matter what socioeconomic background people come from.

Ben showed good bowling skills throughout the tour, taking 10 wickets in four of their matches. The tour was a fantastic opportunity for the team to see the high level of cricket in South Africa, as well as experience the different cultures within the country. It was filled with camaraderie, wonderful team spirit and great cricket.
