Art Festival Day at Stowe School

29 November 2019

On Tuesday 27 November, Archie S (Year 8) and Alex C (Year 7) attended an Art Festival Day for prep school pupils at Stowe School where they were treated to a variety of practical workshops run by members of the school’s art department.

On arrival, the boys were given a sketchbook and joined pupils from other schools in the great Marble Hall where they busied themselves sketching the wonderful architectural elements of the House.

Later, they enjoyed hands-on sessions exploring light and form, creating sculpture maquettes, and making an etching print; all taking their inspiration from Stowe’s impressive structural features and surroundings.

Midway through the day, there was respite in the form of a delicious, genial lunch when visiting pupils and staff were able to make new acquaintances and catch up with old friends. The boys were delighted to see some Old Caldicotians who were keen to say hello and hear news of their old school.

All in all, the boys had a rewarding and enjoyable day which will serve them well with their artwork in the future.

‘As we entered the grounds we marvelled at the scale and beauty of Stowe House, magnificent in its glorious autumnal surroundings. The boys were inspired, not only by the activities and excellent facilities, but by the plethora of accomplished artworks by Stoics displayed around the school. Well done and thank you, Stowe.’Head of Art, Martin Williams
