16 March 2019

Another week has passed and it has been a reasonably ‘normal’ week for many, which was needed in light of this busy term. Others, however, have had a number of events that has meant the fast pace has been maintained, not least the Ski Team who have been competing at the IAPS Championships in Passo Tonale, Italy. Thanks to parents who have a passion for skiing and our commitment to training in the evenings, we’ve developed quite a reputation for the sport and I’m delighted to report that the U11 boys are national champions and the U13 boys were runners up. The icing on the cake was a member of the public who was so impressed with the boys who showed such ‘togetherness and impeccable manners’.

Two opportunities this week will have promoted the well-being of staff and boys. Firstly, we were proud to host the Slough Philharmonic Orchestra on Wednesday evening, who royally entertained boys, staff and parents with a wonderful repertoire. Secondly, we held a digital detox day. Although our boys don’t have phones (which across the country is the reason why such an event was launched), we did talk about the benefits of digital detox in an assembly and there was no tech allowed in lessons. We all tried to send fewer emails too and many thanks if you held off as well!

Looking ahead I am delighted to tell you that the Rev. Dan Bond, a Chaplain of Eton College, will lead Evening Prayer on Wednesday evening, so I hope more parents of boarders are able to come along. In addition, Mr. Sam Gladstone, Precentor of Radley College, will adjudicate the new Individual House Music Final. We work hard to be well connected and both these events will keep Caldicott on the minds of these two important schools.

Sadly, the wind continues to blow and has disturbed the U11 Rugby Sevens this afternoon, but, we are still very much looking forward to it.

Have a good weekend.
