15 February 2019

Within two weeks of a snow day we are now enjoying some Spring sunshine with Half Term approaching. With coughs, colds and bugs taking their toll on pupils and staff, there is the need for a break.

On Monday evening we celebrated Chinese New Year with a delicious meal, giving the boys the opportunity to master the art of eating with chopsticks. I sat with a group of 6th Formers and their skills were, to be honest, pretty average! We all had a lot of fun, plenty of stimulating conversation and finished with Fortune Cookies.

Owing to staff illness, I taught a couple of PSHEE lessons last Saturday in which we continued with work on understanding the plight of refugees. The 2nd Form boys were amazingly empathetic and this preceded the visit of a representative from the Institute of Statelessness who gave a fascinating talk to some boys. On Thursday, Valentine’s Day passed quietly and I had the opportunity to attend the Lunchtime Concert. I was really impressed with the boys’ performance.

On Wednesday, we said ‘bon voyage’ to boys touring South Africa on a cricket tour.  You can follow their progress on Twitter @CaldicottTrips.  In addition, Caldicott will be participating in the First Lego League UK National finals at the University of the West of England. I was delighted to present the boys with their team kit (gifted by a parent) in assembly on Thursday.  We wish them the best of luck!

I hope that you have a restful Half Term.
