BETT Digital Leader trip

25 January 2019

This week, some of the Caldicott Digital Leaders visited BETT, the world’s largest education tech fair held at ExCel in London.

Every year the exhibitors present their newest and most exciting developments; this year robotics was a big trend along with coding small, multipurpose devices such as the BBC Microbit and Raspberry Pi with many new ideas and accessories on show.

There is an increasing move towards Maker Spaces, where individuals design their own creations combining small devices with parts made using 3D printers and laser cutters.

A major development in the education coding world this year, is the launch earlier this month of Scratch version 3, one of the coding languages that is taught to Caldioctt boys from the 1st Form upwards. The Digital Leaders were fortunate enough to chat with some of its developers at the fair who came from MIT especially.

The boys were great at interacting confidently with the exhibitors and were keen to ask probing and interesting questions as they shot a film of their day.
