Caldicott Ski Trip 2018

14 January 2019

Over the Christmas break, 46 boys travelled to Les Menuires in the French Alps for a week of skiing. The forecast was for snow during the night and sun in the day, making it the perfect conditions for the trip.

The group ranged from complete beginners to some very experienced skiers and they spent six days enjoying excellent conditions and weather. The boys’ instructors were great and helped all the boys learn and perfect their skills on the slopes. By the end of the week, all boys showed that they had progressed with their skiing with the beginners moving to steeper slopes and the advanced skiers tackling the more challenging runs with finesse.

In the evening, the boys ventured into the resort for French crepes and confectionary, as well as some Christmas shopping. They also tried their hands at bum-boarding, quizzes, a roller-coaster and games.

Highlights from the boys included:

  • Rafi UG – doing his first black run
  • Stanley N – skiing off-piste in the excellent conditions
  • Charles S – on his first day; getting lost with Mr Robinson and taking a chair lift
  • Aron J – on his second day he got to do his first blue run with fantastic views of the mountains
  • Nico R – bum boarding and watching people fall over on the jumps
  • Louis M and Luca K – going in the ski park and doing jumps
  • Hugo E and Sam G – using the boarder cross run and racing against the other boys in the group
  • Nikolai T and Laksh A – having only skied indoors as part of the boarders’ activity, the first ski in the mountains and seeing the view
