Painting Frida Kahlo

01 November 2018

The 2nd Form have been researching the life of Frida Kahlo recently as part of the cross-curricular project with PSHEE and Art.

Frida Kahlo was a Mexican artist best known for her self-portraits. Her paintings were strongly influenced by Mexican folk culture and use lots of bright colours and dramatic symbolism.

In their lessons, the boys have looked at her work and learnt about her life. They have also looked at Mexican folk art, the clothes she wore and the jewellery she liked. The boys then created portraits of Frida based on their findings.

Having drawn their pictures, the boys used oil, pastels, inks and collage techniques to add the vibrant colours seen in Frida’s paintings and Mexican culture.

Their paintings are currently displayed in the Courtyard and the Junior Corridor.
