01 October 2018

It’s been a tremendous week, despite the wind blowing and the feel of autumn in the air. Alongside fabulously squeezing in an internal swimming gala on the last summer day of 2018, I think we could get away with it being an impressive start.

The rugby on Wednesday was the sporting highlight of the week. I was delighted all boys in the junior years had the opportunity to play; it was wonderful to watch the mighty U10E team and U11E teams having so much fun. Our senior
teams ploughed on with victorious clashes in arguably the hardest fought matches in prep school rugby – Caldicott v Millfield. Well done boys, staff and parents who supported so well. With no incident in mind, as I do every season, it is time for me to remind all spectators not to forget that it is children who are playing and not premiership players. You know the rest!

Caldicott’s collaboration with Diva Opera on Thursday night’s performance of Die Fledermaus was stunning and the parents mirrored that brilliance famously. Everyone involved had an evening to remember and I thank
Mr Wild for putting on an event that championed our desire to broaden musical interest and be inclusive. 50 boys took part in the production, alongside the professionals, and they had an experience that they will never forget. The picnics may not have been outside, but the Caldicott spirit was clear to see and I am very grateful to you all for making such an effort.

There are some tired boys here today, so there will be the need for plenty of sleep this weekend.
