Rugby Tour 2018

10 September 2018

For the consecutive year, the U13A and B rugby squads embarked upon a tour to the Basque country at the end of August.

These tours have proved highly successful in the past at not only preparing boys for the rugby season ahead, but also, more crucially, ensuring that team unity is forged along with having lots of fun.

All 24 boys were involved in fixtures against Bayonne and Biarritz, with two good victories and all boys getting lots of game time in typical Basque conditions. The French teams were as you expect, very physical and keen to beat the English. This was best demonstrated in the game against Biarritz, where the team was up against it but they managed to score right at the death to win the game 15 - 10. A great demonstration of grit and determination from all involved.

It was also a great opportunity of course to practice some French and Spanish and it was fantastic to see the Captain of Rugby, Fillip Edstrom, delivering his post-match speeches to our host clubs in French.

Outside of rugby, the boys enjoyed many activities ranging from the waterpark, the superb beaches of Biarritz, San Sebastian and Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the trampoline park and getting to watch a live Top 14 fixture of Pau v Toulon. The boys also spent some time in Bilbao and were lucky enough to have a guided tour of the Athletic Bilbao Football stadium, named San Mames.

Well done to all 24 boys who were superb ambassadors for Caldicott.
