Since I arrived as Headmaster in April 2018, we have been on an incredibly exciting journey that both honours the vision of our founder, J Heald-Jenkins, who believed a prep school should gift each boy the chance ‘to shine their light on the world’ yet also develops boys for life in the 21st Century with a clever blend of academic rigour, breadth of opportunity and fun.

Our model is based around taking the individualised needs of boys into account as well as easing the transition throughout the year and on into senior school. We’ve changed our model to a 5-day week in Years 3 and 4, Saturday School starts in Year 5 and weekly boarding is no longer compulsory from Year 7. Flexi-boarding gives the day boys the chance to experience boarding if they are keen in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 and we have recently introduced Day Plus to our offering for Years 7 and 8, which adds more flexibility for families who don’t feel their son is ready to full or weekly board at this time. We feel this model will enhance the experience and prepare boys better for senior school at 13+.

Located in a rural setting, with a country prep school feel and a stellar ‘Leavers’ Destinations’ list, with boys going off to the country’s finest senior schools, we feel confident that each boy is getting the education they deserve and a childhood that is cherished.

Capturing all we aim for here at Caldicott into one word seemed the impossible task for a welcome message, but I’ve cracked it! If making a new word up is acceptable, then I ask you to ponder over the word ‘trad-elevant’ as you enjoy the photographs, video and passages of writing here. Caldicott is an enthusiastic traditional prep school, but the wider relevance of what we do as each boy develops to be happy, a lifelong learner, a positive contributor and pace setter too, is incredibly important to us.
