1st Form Declamations 2019

20 June 2019

On Wednesday 19 June, the 1st Form took to the stage for the concluding declamations event this year. With an audience of family and friends, each boy in the year group recited a poem they had committed to memory.

Pieces included Silly Old Baboon by Spike Milligan, I Don’t Want to go to School by Colin McNaughton and The Cod by Lord Alfred Douglas.

Head of English, Mr David Evans, had the difficult task of adjudicating the competition as all boys performed incredibly well. He nearly changed his mind at the last minute, as the standard was so high.

The winners were as follows:

  • First | Angus W with Wonka-Vite by Roald Dahl. Angus was commended for his powerful performance, which was delivered with a lot of excitement.
  • Second | George H with Silver by Walter De La Mare.
  • Third | Tom F with The Spotted Grumble Bug by Andrew Collett.

A Special Commendation prize went to Hamish L with his confident delivery of Auntie Joan by John Foster.

All the declamations finals are now over and we look forward to the competition starting again next year.
