First Lego League Junior Expo

26 March 2019

On Saturday 27 March, Caldicott held the First Lego League Junior Expo with boys in the 3rd Form and other local schools taking part.

A great introduction to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), First Lego League provides children with an opportunity to use creative and team working skills to solve a problem and programme and build a working robot.

With a theme of ‘Mission Moon: How can we live on the moon?’, the morning consisted of a variety of tasks for the teams to take part. This included rocket design, virtual reality, moon survival and using microbits with a space simulator. The groups then presented their robots and took part in an activity to show how they worked.

At the end of the morning the winners of the different tasks and awards were announced and all the groups, and their parents, came together to take part in an impromptu karaoke rendition of Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now, which everyone sung with great enthusiasm.

The morning was a huge success and a great way for the children to get hands on experience of computing and programming, as well as team working and presentation skills.
