Autumn Concert 2018

28 November 2018

It was wonderful to be able to promote the work of the boys in the Music Department on the evening of Tuesday 27 November at the Autumn Concert.

Boys in all year groups took part with a range of performances from the House Shout winners (Wood House) to the most experienced soloists in the school. Performances included the Junior Djembes with Market Place, Fred S (6th Form) on the piano playing Haunted House on the Hill by Jeroen Speak, Harry A (4th Form) on the violin playing Concerto in D, Allegro by Fredrich Seitz, Cyrus C (5th Form) on the Xylophone playing The Entertainer by Scott Joplin and the newly formed Jazz Ensemble playing a rousing Tequila by Chuck Rio.

The evening highlighted many talented musicians at Caldicott and the wonderful ensembles that are becoming more and more popular to take part in. There is something for everyone and the boys are relishing in the opportunity for further musical opportunities at the school.

Director of Performing Arts, James Wild, said ‘Working hard as a musician is often a lonely task, but is countered by the enjoyment of making music with others or performing to an appreciative audience, which is exactly what took place on this occasion. Every performance on Tuesday evening was well prepared and delivered with confidence and maturity, and I was delighted to see so many of our musicians performing so confidently, every one of them proving to merit its place in the programme. The evening was a demonstrable measure of the thoroughness and professional quality of the teaching and preparation involved, which is a consistent feature of the work of the Music Department. Our congratulations go to every soloist and ensemble, and I reiterate my thanks to all the teachers. Thank you for a lovely evening of music making, presented with confidence, fluency and modesty. Well done all of you.’
