3rd Form try to persuade Judge Cusworth on the fate of Stanley Yelnats

05 October 2018

The 3rd Form have been in front of a judge recently as they prosecuted and defended the case of Stanley Yelnats, a young boy who has been charged with theft.

The boys are reading ‘Holes’ by Louis Sachar in their English lessons this term. The book centres on a young boy who is falsely accused of theft and sent to a corrections facility in the Texan dessert.

To delve further into the story and our legal system, Ma’am Cusworth, who was once a barrister, played the role of judge and heard arguments from the boys about whether Stanley was guilty or not guilty of the crime.

The boys came up with very interesting arguments on both sides. They were also very good and thinking on their feet when pressed for more information. Something that they will need to be able to do later in life.
