Feel the Power

19 January 2018

On Thursday, all boys enjoyed an interactive talk from the Royal Institution about electricity.

Going on a history tour of how we discovered electricity, the boys watched various demonstrations drawing from historical experiments including those developed by two of the Royal Institution’s most famous scientists Faraday and Davy.

The talk ranged from static electricity to how magnets work together with electricity and the use of modern-day generators.  The boys also had the opportunity to take part in some of the demonstrations, which they volunteered for with great enthusiasm.  This included helping to create an electric charge that produced an explosion, a tug of war competition to pull apart an electromagnet, and producing static electricity using a balloon.

The talks were a great way to make science interesting and learn something a bit different.
