1st Form Declamations

21 June 2017

On Tuesday 20 June the 1st Form took to the stage for the concluding declamations event this year.  With an audience of family and friends, each boy in the year group recited a poem they had been learning and practising for the last few weeks.  Head of English, Mr David Evans, adjudicated the competition.

Pieces included “On the Ning Nang Nong” by Spike Milligan, “Far Over the Misty Mountains” by JRR Tolkein and “Honey Bear” by Elizabeth Lang.

It was a difficult decision for Mr Evans to choose a winner as all boys did extremely well and at an incredible standard for their age.  However, it was Kit W with “The Car Trip” by Michael Rosen who won first prize.  Kit was commended for being very engaging and understanding all the important elements giving the poem great impact.

In second place was Arman F with “The Pig” by Roald Dhal and Freddi R with “The Jabberwocky” by Lewis Carroll came third.  Special mention went to Tom C with a fantastic rendition of “That’s What Bilboa Baggins Hates” by JRR Tolkein.

All the declamations finals are now over and we look forward to the competition starting again next year.
