Beating Climate Change

06 February 2017

Last term, Oliver A and Jake B (5th Form), entered the International Schools’ Essay Writing Competition as part of their activities in the Debating and Writing Club.

The competition, which is ran by The Trust for Sustainable Living, invited school children from around the world to write an open letter to the newly-elected UN Secretary General, outlining their ideas for practical climate change.

Oliver and Jake researched and wrote 600 words with the title “We Can Beat Climate Change by 2030”. Out of 1,229 entries from 77 different countries, Oliver and Jake did remarkably well.  Oliver was selected as a finalist being placed in the top 10% and Jake was given an Honourable Mention.

Caldicott is pleased to announce that Oliver A has been shortlisted as a top 10 finalist in the competition. Oliver has been invited to attend the Debates and Awards Final at the University of Oxford in July and his essay will be judged by a panel of international educationalists and experts in the field of climate change.

This is a very impressive achievement for Oliver who entered the 11 to 18 year old category and competed against over 800 entries from over 70 schools around the world.
