A Visit to The Globe

10 February 2017

To enhance their English and Drama studies of the famous bard William Shakespeare, 4th Form boys headed out on a rather chilly, but hugely informative and fun tour of Shakespeare’s Globe.

The fantastic tour guides delighted the boys with tales of the realities of Tudor life as they toured round the replica of the famous playhouse. The boys took part in an Elizabethan costume workshop, where one lucky boy experienced what it would have been like playing a girl on the Shakespearean stage, and a stage combat workshop where they were shown the different weaponry used in battle and given a live demonstration of choreographed fight sequences which were used on the stage.

The trip helped expand the boys’ knowledge of the texts they have been working on in class, “Macbeth”, “Romeo and Juliet” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.  They have also been creating art work in the style of Russian-French artist, Marc Chagall, based on Shakespeare's plays.

Head of Drama, Johanna Duncan said “It was a brilliant day and we are grateful to the staff of The Globe for sharing their expert knowledge with us. The boys had a fantastic time and this has really helped grow their understanding of Shakespeare’s plays.”
