This afternoon, the First Form had the difficult task of reciting a poem by heart to an audience of their peers, parents and teachers for their first declamation.
Declamations are a tradition at Caldicott and happen annually in each year group. As well as poems written by popular children’s poets, such as Spike Milligan and Allan Ahlberg, there were also more serious pieces, for example ‘Daffodils’ by William Wordsworth and ‘The Day that Summer Died’ by Vernon Scannell.
The Head of English, Mr Hanrahan and Ma’am Duncan, who will be the Head of Drama from the Autumn term, had the difficult task of deciding the winners.
The results were as follows:
1st place: J Eyre - Please Mrs Butler by Allan Ahlberg
2nd place: F Wolsey Pont - Not Afraid of the Dark by Kenn Nesbitt
3rd place: D Kainth - Betty Botter by Anon
Special prize: Z Mohamed - Nobody Loves Me by Anon
