On Thursday 9th May, Caldicott hosted its first ever 4-school swimming gala. We were joined by Horris Hill, Ludgrove and Papplewick for what promised to be an exciting, inaugural event.
As each school provided only an ‘A’ team swimmer, or relay team, for each event, the races were all very close. There were many thrilling finishes for the boys and parents who were watching to enjoy and all of the boys put in superb performances.
Out of the 32 races, Caldicott won 20, were second in 10 and came third in only 2; a fantastic display of swimming.
Ludgrove turned out to be our biggest challengers and the results of the gala went right down to the final couple of relay races. Ultimately, Caldicott were strong enough to win through, with Ludgrove in a very close second, Papplewick third and Horris Hill in fourth place.
Special mention must go to T Glazebrook (U9) who was involved in 4 races and won all 4 and also to G Culley (U10) who was involved in 5 races, winning them all, even winning the U11 Butterfly against boys a year older than him.
The weather, whilst inclement, did not spoil the event and we managed to get the final event finished before the heavens opened. We look forward to welcoming all three schools back to Caldicott next year for what I am sure will be another very competitive event.
Finally, the Headmaster also announced, during Friday morning’s assembly, that J Pickering has been made Captain of Swimming this year.
