Today, the First Form left Caldicott and were taken on a journey to the Mumbai slums as part of their geography work on India. In order to understand what it might be like to live in a Mumbai slum the boys initially built slums from recyclables. They then had to pick through the rubbish and gather the resources needed to create and sell an object so that they could earn enough money to buy their lunch! Fortunately, all the boys managed this challenge and were treated to Indian food tasting.
As well as being lots of fun, the experience allowed the boys to realise how privileged they are and develop an understanding of the resourcefulness and creativity of those children living in the slums.
