On Tuesday 5th March, a team of three 4th form students went to the Oratory Senior School to take part in a Prep School Debating competition. G Perkins, M Shanaghan and M Von Lewinski faced competition from seven other schools as they took part in a range of activities, developing their debating experience. The deciding debate was against Farleigh School from Hampshire on the Motion “This house believes that fatty foods should be banned in schools.” All the boys performed well and gained praise from the judges. This is the second year in a row that Caldicott has won the competition.
G Perkins writes:
The amazing day started when we heard that last year’s winners were Caldicott and a wave of pressure came on us. When we heard Mr Evans was taking us some of the pressure came away. When we arrived we went into groups with the other schools and we learnt more about debating. When the time came to see our motion (subject we were going to talk about), our team presented our speech amazingly. When it came to the results we were very nervous and when heard Caldicott won we were amazed. I would like to say a massive thank you to Mr Evans who gave us ideas and helped us win.
