Sky Academy

22 September 2017

This week a group of 4th Form boys visited the Sky Studios in West London.  This was a cross-curricular trip combining science, geography and computing.

The Sky Academy uses their expertise in sport, TV and creativity to help build skills in young people, by giving them the opportunity to immerse themselves into the world of production and media.

The boys had the chance to go behind the scenes at Sky and make their own TV report based on their current studies of “Taking Care of Our World”.  They each chose different roles such as reporter, editor, producer, director, scriptwriters, eyewitnesses and experts.  In teams, they planned, filmed and edited segments before combining them into a proper news report.

The boys were also treated to a studio tour where they saw real Sky presenters reporting live to the camera and learnt what goes into the filming and preparation for these broadcasts.

Overall, the trip was a success and the boys came away with a deeper understanding of technology and media.  The second half of the 4th Form will get the opportunity to do this in October!
