3rd Form Jarrow Crusade

28 April 2016

This October sees the 80th Anniversary of the Jarrow March. Also known as the Jarrow Crusade it was a protest march in England in October 1936 against the unemployment and poverty suffered in the northeast Tyneside town of Jarrow during the 1930s. Around 200 men marched from Jarrow to London over 26 days, carrying a petition to the British government requesting the re-establishment of industry in the town following the closure in 1934 of its main employer, Palmer's shipyard. As part of their history studies on Britain since the 1930s, the 3rd Form re-enacted the march, walking round the school fields waving their banners.
