General Studies talk on rockets

05 February 2016

On Wednesday 27th January the 5th and 6th form had a talk from Mr Scrope and one of their leading rocket scientists from Reaction Engines. The talk was on rockets, project Skylon and their vision to fly from England to Sydney in just under 4 hours. This would involve sending a special plane into space with 2 engines: one would be jet, and the other a SABRE (Synergetic Air-Breathing Rocket Engine).

It was very interesting and was very exciting when they blew up two identical balloons: one containing just hydrogen, and the other a mixture of oxygen and hydrogen. The latter was highly explosive and made a very big bang was lit. Overall it was a great and everyone left inspired to be an astronaut!
